Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such enhancement projects. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site inspections, programming, research, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and execution of the design. CPUT is an approved education member of The African Institute of Interior Design Professions (IID) and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

The Interior Design programme at CPUT offers the following programmes:
ECP – Extended Curriculum Programme. A preparatory one-year, offering additional foundational support, which instils confidence when entering the mainstream diploma.

Diploma – A three-year, full-time Diploma in Interior Design. (SAQA accredited360 credit value; NQF level 6)

Advanced Diploma – The fourth year of study, which is a one-year Advanced Diploma in Interior Design. Offered as a one-year full-time or a two-year part-time programme. (SAQA accredited 120 credit value: NQF level 7)
